Who We Are
The Shophouse has been a Singapore favourite for over 16 years. What started as a teak import on the East Coast of Singapore, has evolved and expanded into both a retailer and design house, now spanning across 3 locations.
In 2008, Good Earth India came on board and The Shophouse is now very proud to be the Singapore retailer for these amazing and innovative products.
What started with one in-house interior designer who provided an add-on service for the retail business, has now grown into a thriving Interior Design business which provides a comprehensive range of Interior Design and Home Styling Services.
To compliment our Interior Design service, we offer custom furniture design. Our in-house designer is available to work with our clients, to create the right piece, with the right finish, within the right budget.
The Shophouse is managed with passion and belief by owners Jamie Gorman and Laura Bartlett. Both share the vision that well crafted products should be coupled with personalized service. Both Laura and Jamie personally select 100% of the products available in the stores.

Jamie Gorman
Hailing from the Southern Highlands in Australia, Jamie has a background in fashion retailing and styling. As the owner of Filthy Luca in Paddington, Sydney, Jamie learned the ropes of running a fast paced retail business in the highly competitive field of fashion in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs.Jamie always had a passion for interior design, which he credits to his mother who was an accomplished stylist and decorator in her own right. Wanting a break from fashion retail, Jamie retrained in interior design and styling and started his own company in Sydney, Inner Space Design where he took on interior and styling projects for a range of residential clients.
Relocating to Singapore with his partner, Jamie found his way to The Shophouse on the recommendations of friends, and the rest, as they say, is history. Jamie came on board as a co-owner and Creative Director of The Shophouse in February 2011.

Laura Bartlett
Laura grew up in a rural area on the outskirts of Brisbane, Australia, and has certainly moved far from her roots. Originally a HR Consultant for a firm in Melbourne, Laura spent much of her earlier career working closely with oil industry leaders to assist with their HR and recruitment needs.Laura relocated to Singapore in early 1997 with her partner, and then proudly became the mother to three great kids. Life took a crazy turn in 2004 when the Bartlett family were relocated to New Delhi, India where they subsequently spent an eventful but life changing two years.
During her time in India, Laura was mesmerized by the Good Earth brand. Upon learning of an imminent return to Singapore, she quickly approached Good Earth (then an emerging design house based out of New Delhi) to bring their brand back to Singapore. Much to everyone’s surprise, they agreed and “Leaving India” was born. It all snowballed from there!
In early 2008 Laura purchased The Shophouse and quickly merged Leaving India products with the existing teak furniture of The Shophouse allowing Good Earth to be a recognizable brand in Singapore in its own right. The Shophouse was transformed and Interior Design, Custom Design and lighting products were all added.
